About

Nish

I’m Karen NISH Nishimura.  “Nish” is not part of my legal given name, but for many years I have been called Nish by friends and professional colleagues so it seems quite natural and I like being Nish.  Nish’s Niche became a natural choice to call my blog which includes my interests, work and loves, and now that I am an author –  my writing.

Much of what I do and love is creative, particularly if it involves practical matters such as project management, or production.  I have been a Producer for well known entertainment companies like Disney, Sony Entertainment, Mattel and CBS. A “Producer” is the common title for a professional that might be titled Project Manager at any other non-entertainment business. I prefer the title of Producer to Project Manager because it better describes the creative aspect of the position.

It’s a skilled occupation but isn’t corralled to business only.  If you are a parent, for example, you must “produce” or project manage events and everyday tasks to be successful at producing a family dinner, or get your children to bed after a long day so you can relax yourself.  That takes creativity.  My approach to any situation that needs a combination of planning, team building,  design, development, testing, execution and launch is a creative endeavor that requires “Producer” skills.  Even when the team is just one person – me –  I’m still the Producer.

Music!  Oh wonderful music is such a fine and essential part of my life.   You will find that music is often the subject of my blog posts.

Specific projects:

I am the author of “You’ve Heard These Hands”. . .

“You’ve Heard These Hands” is a collection of stories from the life of Don Randi. Don has played keyboards, composed, arranged, recorded or directed over a thousand popular recordings, live shows and TV and film scores. The historic periods of these stories cover the late 1940’s (Don’s youth) through the 1950s, 1960s, 1970s to the present day. The discoveries, developments and influence on popular culture and recorded music during these years have been well documented by many others, but Don Randi has been a part of popular music history and shares his experiences as an insider not just living it, but as a contributor and one of the pioneers in recording and entertainment.

The book reveals Don Randi’s experiences behind-the-scenes, in-the-studio as a member of the Wall of Sound/Wrecking Crew and on-tour, both hilarious and emotional, with some of the most admired music artists and producers of all time like Nancy Sinatra, Elvis Presley, Phil Spector, Jimmy Bowen, Dean Martin, the Jackson 5, Brian Wilson, Linda Ronstadt, Sammy Davis Jr., Glen Campbell and many more. You will be moved by how much Don Randi has been a part of the music you’ve heard and still listen to today. “You’ve Heard These Hands” will capture the interest and heart of its readers and will become one of the most talked about books as readers won’t be able to resist sharing Don’s stories with their friends.

My goal is to present and reveal my thoughts that will inform and entertain you.  I certainly hope you’ll come back and find a niche here that interests you.

All my best,
Nish

      1. I’m the new Treasurer of the Enosburgh Historical Society and just found a note about your dad that led me to you. My wife and I have called Maplemount home since 1972 when we bought it from Charles Nichols. We are refugees from California (Whittier and the Bay Area) who went to Pomona College. We don’t farm and have “lived away” a lot of years, but now we’re retired here. This beautiful place has been home since the first we visited it. We’d be eager to talk with you about your dad’s memories of this place and to have you visit if you want to. Please be in touch: wheneveld@yahoo.com.
